I really enjoyed this book by Debra Webb。 This is my first read from her and I will definitely read more。 The mystery definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and there were twists I never saw coming。 This is the third book in the Finley O’Sullivan series and I definitely need to go back and read the first two。 I don’t usually read a series out of order but I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review！

A Cold Case Heats UpThirteen years ago， Lucy Cagle envisioned being an investigative reporter like her mother。 She had made friends with a young man， and tonight， she would get the whole story of his family。 She will learn all their secrets that had stayed hidden for decades。 For her， nothing else mattered。 When they sat in his car， instead of starting the car， he turned and stared at her。 He said he was sorry。 She felt a garrot tighten and cut off her air。 The novel jumps to the present day whe A Cold Case Heats UpThirteen years ago， Lucy Cagle envisioned being an investigative reporter like her mother。 She had made friends with a young man， and tonight， she would get the whole story of his family。 She will learn all their secrets that had stayed hidden for decades。 For her， nothing else mattered。 When they sat in his car， instead of starting the car， he turned and stared at her。 He said he was sorry。 She felt a garrot tighten and cut off her air。 The novel jumps to the present day when a handbag with Lucy Cagle’s driver’s license and four cigarette butts are discovered in a warehouse formally owned by the Sullivan family。 The police want Ray Sullivan’s DNA for comparison。 He is not worried about a positive match; he is afraid it might connect him to one of his youthful indiscretions。 Ray Sullivan’s father asks Jack Finnegan， a lawyer who owes the father a favor， to stop the police collection of his son’s DNA。 From this start， a long-hidden mystery is solved。The protagonist is Finley O’Sullivan， who is an investigator for Jack Finnegan。 The main storyline opens with O’Sullivan’s investigation to determine who killed Lucy Cagle。 Ray Johnson states that he did not kill the girl。 If O’Sullivan can find who the murderer is， that would negate the need for the DNA test。 Many obstacles hinder O’Sullivan’s investigation。 Soon after the murder， the younger brother of Ray Sullivan and Lucy Cagle’s mother go missing。 The younger brother was at the top of the suspect list in the original investigation。 A connection between Lucy Cagle and O’Sullivan’s father was also discovered。 The biggest obstacle is that no one appears to be telling the truth or the whole truth。 It took a little bit， but my interest was captured and maintained to the end。Two threads provide information on Finley O’Sullivan’s character cross into the main storyline。 The first is that she was a prosecutor who had a meltdown in court after a defendant attacked her and killed her husband。 Her license was suspended。 She wants to challenge the current district attorney in the upcoming election。 The second thread is O’Sullivan’s helping her neighbor who suffers a heart attack。 She lives alone with her dog， who needs to be fed and walked。 O’Sullivan visits her daily。 Her relationship with her parents and live-in boyfriend provides a solid insight into her character。 This aspect of the novel enhanced my reading enjoyment of this novel。The aspects of a novel that can cause some readers to stop reading are present in this novel。 The characters use rude language much more than vulgar language。 There is a much more significant amount of impious language。 There are no intimate scenes。 Except for the first chapter， most violence is less edgy after the fact than as it occurs。 This novel is the third in the series。 I have not read them and did not feel that there were holes in the storyline from not having read them。I did not find anything that rubbed me the wrong way。 I did enjoy that what I thought were background threads turned into main storyline threads。 There were not any loose ends at the end of the novel。 Lastly， I was happy with the ending。 Two years ago， I read one previous novel by this author。 I have purchased two more from that series。 Based on my experience with these two novels， I have placed Debra Webb in my Will-Read category。 I enjoyed reading this novel。 If you like this genre， I do recommend reading this novel。 I rate it with four stars。I received a free prepublication e-book version of this novel through NetGalley from Thomas & Mercer。 My review is based solely on my own reading experience of this book。 Thank you， Thomas & Mercer， for the opportunity to read and review this novel early。 。。。more

Webb concludes the Finley O’Sullivan series in this third book and while the ending included an HEA， I will miss these characters。 I have enjoyed this series immensely and it definitely goes out with a bang。

This book is full of twists and turns。 Working with a cold case can be frustrating but when it bjenfs with current crimes it’s necessary。 Finley uses 10-year-old information with new clues and connections to solve a murder。 Debra Webb’s books are pure gold。 This book is the finale to a great trilogy。 They are awesome！
